Sartre and Existentialism

My purpose here is to defend existentialism against several reproaches that have been laid against it.

From his first forays into philosophy during the 20th century to his death in April of 1980, Jean-Paul Sartre was one of the foremost figures in the existentialist movement that came to define European culture after the Second World War. As a whole, existentialism has influenced popular culture, setting undertones in films like A Clockwork Orange and Groundhog Day that discuss existentialist issues.
